Dear Family and Friends

I recently became a Creative Memories Independent Consultant. You know how passionate I am about scrapbooking, but you may not know why I love it so much.

When I was a senior in high school, both my parents died within six weeks of each other. My mother had cancer, my father had a heart attack. To make matters worse, I was pregnant! Okay, enough of that.

Back in the olden days, parents didn’t talk about a lot of things with their children. I didn’t know much about my parents other than they provided me with shelter, gave me food, taught me what was right, took care of me if I was sick, and loved me unconditionally. When they died they took almost all the family history with them. They had pictures, some in albums, most in boxes and no words to tell me who the people were or what their relationship meant to my parents. I had pictures of babies, but don’t know if it was me, my sister or someone else. One of the few things I learned after my parents died was that my grandmother introduced my father to my mother. I won’t bore you with those details, but how cool is that? I often wondered how many other stories about their lives I missed hearing about.

Anyway, I love scrapbooking because it provides a way for me to record my life and tell my story, my way (borrowed that from CM). I want to make sure that when I’m gone, anyone who cared about me will be able to look at my albums and remember me or find out something about the family they might not have known otherwise. I think my story is important and I want to share it. I want my kids, grandkids and possibly future generations to have an opportunity to know their heritage.

The other reason I scrapbook is purely selfish. I LOVE IT. I love reminiscing about the past days of my life. I love reliving my vacations. I love enjoying my “trips with the girls” long after the trips are over. I love recording the progress Dean has made on our 10 acres of land as he prepared the land and is now building our cabin on it. I love watching him show off the albums to others; it makes me proud of the work we’ve both done (him on the cabin, me on the scrapbooks).

I love to scrapbook. Recently I helped a friend set up her Mac with the CM software and I realized that I really do know quite a bit about CM and I enjoy sharing what I've learned with others - not just doing it for myself.

I am so looking forward to building a nice business with CM. Combine that with my YTB travel business and I'm all set to really enjoy sharing my passions and building some residual income for my retirement (which isn't that far off).

Hobbit Travel Closed Just days before Christmas, Hobbit Travel closed their doors temporarily as they look for financing. I posted the following comment on their Facebook Wall: "Yes, Hobbit will be missed. I am a travel agent with YTB and many times booked with Hobbit because the deals were better. Sadly, those deals weren't as good for Hobbit as they were for their customers. I will miss Hobbit and am very sorry to see any business shutdown. I feel especially bad for the employees whom I've enjoyed doing business with over the years. Out of work is bad, but seems worse at Christmas."

I have since learned that my neighbor had purchased a cruise for her family of six for a Christmas present. She paid for airfare, but Hobbit didn't purchase the tickets. I don't know the status of her reservations, but I know she is very unhappy and left to deal with it herself.

I will miss Hobbit as a client. As a competitor, I'm hoping that many of you will shop at my online travel store when looking for your next vacation.
